Subject: Important Announcement about AMHCA and ACA
Greetings, state chapter leaders!
As I have already discussed with some of you, I am writing to inform you that AMHCA has formalized our independence from ACA.
Despite the fact that AMHCA achieved administrative and financial independence from ACA in 1996, we officially remained a division of the ACA. There are many disadvantages of remaining a division of another organization, including difficulty securing the same discounts for our members that are available to ACA members. The decision to split from ACA a mutual decision and not an adversarial one. It is a a logical and pragmatic decision that we believe will best serve the needs of our members, and it is also one that is supported by ACA. Whereas ACA advocates for a wide variety of counseling professionals, AMHCA is the only national association that exclusively advocates for clinical mental health counselors, counselors with advanced training and specialized expertise not only in general counseling skills but also in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders as healthcare practitioners. We hope to continue partnering with ACA on projects and issues that are of mutual benefit to our members, just as we do with other leading organizations in our profession, such as NBCC, ACES, and AASCB.
